Court Street: Carl Meyer's Hof

Known to downtown workers for 49 years at its 45 Court Street location, Carl Meyer's Hof Restaurant was a fixture until 1982 when
it was forced to close when faced with a 316% rent increase. The last owner, Carl "Chuck" Meyer, was the 4th family member with
that name. His grandfather first opened a restaurant at Jefferson and Broadway, opening the Court Street restaurant in 1933.

The same view, 2004. Carl Meyer's Hof served 1,000 lunches per day near the end of its tenure on Court Street. It was popular with
members of the legal community who worked in the nearby courthouses. Deliberating juries were often brought into the restaurant
for their meals.

The blue arrow shows the former two-story location of Carl Meyer's Hof. Today, a Greek-style lunch shop
occupies the site.

Note: Grateful appreciation to Chuck Meyer for his assistance in providing the important details
about this gustatory landmark.
