Lafayette High School

Lafayette High School construction began in 1901 (see article on the groundbreaking here); the school opened
in 1903 as the third high school in the city of Buffalo (Central and Masten were the others).

Although the school appears unchanged from its earliest days, the lantern (cupola) was removed in 1964
as a safety measure. This replacement was funded after many years of effort and its completion was
celebrated in 1999.

still serving its original purpose.
