Owners Planning to Put Up a Big Business
Block on the Site Buffalo Evening News, October 26, 1900 Buffalo is likely to lose one of its landmarks at the close of the Pan-American Exposition, the said landmark beign the Tifft House on Main Street between Broadway and Mohawk streets. The Tifft estate, which owns the property, has long been anxious to dispose of it and negotiations, it is understood, are in progress, which may result in its passage into other hands. The present lessee of the hotel, John Hood, will retain possession thereof until May 1, 1902, on which date his lease will expire. It is understood the Tifft estate is not desirous of renewing the lease, as it prefers to sell the property. In case it is sold, the hotel will be torn down, and a fine modern business block erected on the ground it occupies. The Tifft House is admirably located in the center of one of the most desirable business blocks on Main street from a business viewpoint. A modern business structure, standing in its place, would command big rent for many years. Of course, nothing will be done until after the close of the Exposition as Buffalo will need the Tifft House and all of its other hotels next summer. |
