The Ellicott Club Starts Off With
Many Representative Members The Delicacy of the Decoration Has
Been a Cause of Delay - Buffalo Evening News Probably in the whole history of clubdom there is no more individual organization than the Ellicott Club, which will occupy one-half of the 10th floor of the mammoth office building from which it gets its name. In the first place, no club in any city contained a full list of 600 as representative men three months before completion of its quarters. Again, no club on as large a scale has been organized for its peculiar province. It is also safe to say that no other club can surpass the Ellicott, in beauty of quarters, taste and refinement in decoration, and elegance of interior. All the upholsteries, the hanging, the china and the glass and silver ware were contracted for at the best places, and all these have now arrived and are awaiting unpacking. Some of the china of the club is now being exhibited in Glenny's windows. Owing to the peculiar delicacy of the mural decorations and the interior in general, it was found impossible for the opening of the club to be synchronous with the opening of the building. But the large resting room is almost finished and will be opened shortly to members. But it will be a couple of weeks before the club is formally opened. The peculiar nature of the club, whereby the members expect to derive mutual benefit by conversation during the noon hour, making the assemblage something like that of a commercial agora, is the keynote of the motive of the club. Its membership roll...contains the very best of Buffalo's representative men in every sphere of action, commercial or professional. The club was an assured success from the day of its inception, and its future promises to do much for Buffalo. [What follows is an alphabetical list of the 600 members.] |
